To export from Trimble Access for as-built work: open the job → Menu → Export → select CSV or JXL. CSV exports point IDs, coordinates, and descriptions; JXL is the native Trimble format and preserves full observation data. Transfer via USB or Trimble Connect cloud sync. For Gradelog import, use CSV in PNEZD column order.
Export File Formats from Trimble Access
- CSV: Best for import into Gradelog, Excel, or Civil 3D. Flexible column order; select PNEZD for maximum compatibility.
- JXL (JobXML): Trimble’s native format. Contains full observation data (raw angles, distances, prism heights) and can be imported into Trimble Business Center for least-squares adjustment and as-built drafting.
- DXF: For direct import into AutoCAD.
- ASCII TXT: Fallback format when CSV import has issues.
Export Procedure
- Open the job in Trimble Access on the controller.
- Navigate to Menu → Job → Export.
- Select Current job and the export format (CSV recommended for Gradelog).
- Configure the column order: select PNEZD. Choose whether to include code/description and whether to export all points or only staked/measured points.
- Select the export location: controller internal storage, USB drive, or email.
- For USB transfer: connect the controller to your computer with the USB cable. The controller appears as a removable drive; navigate to the Jobs folder and copy the exported file.
- For Trimble Connect sync: if the project is connected to Trimble Connect (cloud), the file syncs automatically. Access from the Trimble Connect web interface.
Coordinate System Considerations
Trimble Access stores coordinates in the project’s configured coordinate system. Verify the export coordinate system matches what Gradelog expects:
- If Gradelog is configured for State Plane coordinates, export in State Plane
- If the project uses a local site grid, export in the same local grid
- Do not mix coordinate systems between exports from different instruments on the same project
